Sophie Hulme

We caught up with designer of the moment, Sophie Hulme, to find out what it’s like to spend a day in her stylish, yet comfortable, shoes…

Today I’m… working towards the LFW Show.

I’ve been up since… 7.30 am having quite literally dragged myself out of bed. I’ve been working all weekend so I’m feeling a bit rubbish this morning.

My working wardrobe is… dressing for comfort, especially when I’m in the studio. Normally I’m in my Converse with a pair of heels in my bag to throw on for meetings. Clothes wise, I couldn’t live without a good pair of tailored trousers and some silk shorts – they’re super useful for any occasion.

I’m most productive… the hour before everyone comes in in the morning. It’s nice to have a clear head and make decisions before the mayhem starts.

I’m always the one with… painkillers – pattern cutting can be quite headache-inducing. I’m also known for carrying a KitKat for when I lose concentration.

I couldn’t work without… a constant supply of tea, and my diary. I’m best at making decisions with a cup of tea in one hand, and my diary in the other – I couldn’t possibly keep all that information in my head.

My inspiration comes from… dinosaurs at the moment – they come in amazing graduated colours, and they’re just such an iconic object, recognisable to everyone, instantly.

I got my big break from…Selfridges buying my collection, and selling out, that really pushed the brand forward. We had a big installation in-store with gold charms and stop motion animations, It really helped draw attention to the brand.

If I wasn’t here I’d be… painting. It’s my favourite thing to do but I never really have any time, I’d love to be on my own with some paints for a while.

When I clock off I’ll… go for a drink with my friends or hang out with my family – my tiny nephews are great at putting stress into perspective.
